What a wonderful headline to read first-thing in the morning: Police investigate non-fatal shooting in Hampden
City police were investigating an afternoon non-fatal shooting in Hampden.
Police said officers were called to the 3700 block of Hickory Ave., about two blocks north of The Avenue, at about 3:30 p.m. for a report of shots fired. A female, who age was not immediately disclosed, had been shot in the foot, police said.
The shooting is the first non-police shooting in Hampden since Aug. 2009, according to data posted to the city’s OpenBaltimore website. The last homicide in Hampden was in July 2010, when John Sandy was fatally beaten in the 3500 block of Elm Ave.
I won’t tell you how close this is to my house, but let’s just assume it’s pretty close. Also assume that I have neighbors that might be inclined to act in such a way. (Not you, BF.)
I guess it’s good that it was a non-fatal shooting, right? Maybe I’ll just focus on that.
And a Happy Friday to you all!
UPDATE: And now I’m even more scared because I read this:
City police say a 68-year-old woman was injured Thursday afternoon after someone fired multiple shots into a residence.
At about 3:30 p.m., a vehicle drove into the 3700 block of Hickory Ave., just a few blocks north of The Avenue in Hampden, and fired several rounds at the home, police said. The victim was inside at the time and suffered an injury to her foot.
Police said Friday that investigators now believe the woman was not struck by a bullet, but instead a metal shard from a door. That means the incident won’t be counted as a shooting, but rather an aggravated assault and discharging.
Det. Jeremy Silbert, a police spokesman, said a motive was unclear.
The vehicle is described only as a white vehicle with blue stripes.
OH OK. AGGRAVATED ASSAULT. THAT’S SO MUCH BETTER (nope).
