Bo’s birthday, a three-day weekend… and a Nobel Peace Prize

The quote of the day belongs to Malia and Sasha Obama (from transcript of President Obama’s statement on winning the award):

Well, this is not how I expected to wake up this morning.

After I received the news, Malia walked in and said, ‘Daddy, you won the Nobel Peace Prize, and it is Bo’s birthday.’

And then Sasha added, ‘Plus, we have a three-day weekend coming up.’

So it’s – it’s good to have kids to keep things in perspective.

Word.

UPDATE: Here’s the cutest Bo slideshow ever.

Pedro and Vinny’s

Click on the image to make it bigger (I think). Here’s what the writing at the top says:

John Rider, owner of Pedro and Vinny’s, has for the past seven years served up burritos from his cart on the corner of 15th and K. His homemade burritos come with banter worthy of a Hollywood screwball comedy.

It’s so true, too. And you know there’s nothing I love more than Mexican food, pop culture, and politics. So I’m glad Mark Giaimo made a cartoon of this downtown DC gem.

If any of you have ever lived/worked in DC, then you’ve probably heard about Pedro and Vinny’s burrito cart (Warning: the website is atrocious. Thankfully, the burritos are so good it doesn’t matter). It’s fab, totally vegetarian (no meat options), but I swear that even the most hardcore carnivores don’t mind.

They closed for a while, and then came back… and are truly a staple of downtown DC lunching and lunch-time entertainment.
