Obama Family To Stay on Farm During Martha’s Vineyard Vacation

Many of you enjoyed my post on the upcoming Obama family vacation in Martha’s Vineyard, so I wanted to hit you with another update. Internets – we know where they are staying:

The First Family will rent a “bucolic” family farm on Martha’s Vineyard in August, where the Clintons once spent time. According to the Vineyard Gazette, Blue Heron Farm is on 28.5 acres on a quiet road which spans the town lines between Chilmark and West Tisbury, and overlooks part of the Tisbury Great Pond. According to the paper, the Obamas will share the lease with the Secret Service and their White House staff, and will have the farm for 60 days. Similar farms rent for between $35,000 to $50,000 per week, so the cost of the vacation could be anywhere from $300,000 to $428,000. The president will only actually be in town for the last week of August, but it’s been reported that Michelle, Malia, and Sasha may go earlier to spend time there. The house itself has an interesting history: It was sold in 2005 to its current owners, William and Mollie Van Devender, for $20 million, after the previous owners, the Fisher family, were killed in a plane crash in 2003. The Fishers were friends of the Clintons and played host to them in 1998 while Bill Clinton was in office.

Very interesting, indeed… At least it is if you’re a Martha’s Vineyard lover like me. I totally called that they’d stay where the Clinton’s stayed (sorta) and I like that the local press reported that the renting was handled just like any other family:

It is understood that the Obamas have treated the transaction as a standard Vineyard summer rental, from payment terms right down to questions about bringing the family dog.

Yes! They’re bringing Bo.
