Joan Walsh on Sonia Sotomayor

It should surprise approximately no one that the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor has ignited an uneven firestorm from the Republican Party. They clearly can’t decide how/what to attack her on – only that they should attack. And it should surprise approximately no one that the attacks are pretty loathsome and downright dirty and unsubstantiated. It’s really got me worked up this morning.

Salon‘s Joan Walsh does a thorough write-up which I highly suggest reading. Her concluding paragraph is my favorite part:

Why is it that strong women are so often called bullies and ballbreakers, while strong, opinionated men are often called, simply, Justice Scalia.

Why, indeed?
